We can’t Forget: Kmart Day Recolors Checklist

Kmart supported the Hot Wheels collecting hobby by sponsoring the Kmart Collector’s Day events. Kmart stores would host a special collector’s event where exclusive vehicles would be made available. This was the chance for collectors to open a sealed case with the hope of finding a Treasure Hunt or Super Treasure Hunt. Typically, every case contained Exclusive Colors, and a treasure hunt. Some cases had Supers as well. Most events had a raffle style setup, where your ticket would be called, and you’d have five minutes to select five cars from a case of your choosing. Cases would be raffled until all tickets were called, then all remaining product would be released for sale, and a “Scrum” typically was the outcome. Still, these events were a good time and I attended many of them over the years.

Every Kmart event came with exclusive color vehicles, which were recolors only available at the time of the event. These store exclusives are in the same vein as Zamacs and Red Editions, in my view. Here is a complete checklist:

I miss Kmart Days. The excitement of getting a chance to open fresh cases, the enthusiasm of fellow collectors, and tracking down the exclusive cars is something that none of the other retailer’s events have been able to replicate. Maybe one day.
