MattyCollector/Ringside Collectibles exclusives:

  • Andre The Giant
  • Arn Anderson
  • King Kong Bundy
  • Diamond Dallas Page
  • The Rockers – Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty
  • Tully Blanchard
  • Macho King Randy Savage *Ringside Exclusive*

The Breakdown: These were released over a few months’ time on Matty Collector. They were notable for being the only release of Bundy and Marty Jannetty, and the debut of the classic WWF Tag Team Title belts. Macho King was a Ringside Collectibles exclusive and is awesome in his 1989 attire. All of these figures are highly sought after, especially mint in package.

“Lost Legends Series”:

  • Kamala, released in Legends series 2
  • Chris Jericho
  • Shawn Michaels, released in Elite Series 19
  • Magnum TA, debut figure in packaging similar to Legends Series 1-6
  • Undertaker, released in Elite Series 23
  • Ultimate Warrior, released in Legends Series 6

The Breakdown: This wave was a nice treat at the time, as the main WWE Legends Series had ended, and classic characters were only being released in the Elite Series as Flashbacks. There were some small detail changes with Kamala and the Warrior, but mostly minor.

They’re back!

The return of the WWE Legends series was a big hit among collectors. There were three major changes to the presentation when the line was re-introduced. First, they are exclusive to Target and Target.com. Secondly, they are limited to releases of four at a time, released quarterly. Third, is the debut of chase figures into the line, which is an alternate attire of one of the characters, released in more limited numbers than the others.

Legends Series 7:

  • Greg The Hammer Valentine
  • Greg The Hammer Valentine (chase version)
  • Bobby the Brain Heenan
  • Razor Ramon

The Breakdown: Sting was originally slated to be part of this group, but he was dropped when his WWE Contract expired. Valentine is a solid figure with a great robe, and Razor in a different color than purple or black is a welcome addition. Bobby is a niche figure, but a nice touch for fans of that era.

Legends Series 8:

  • Ultimate Warrior
  • Eddie Guerrero
  • Jake the Snake Roberts
  • Jake the Snake Roberts (chase version)
  • Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff

The Breakdown: Another solid lineup, with the Warrior being his last appearance in figure form. Eddie, Orndorff and Jake were all solid re-introductions to the Legends line, as they had been released in Series 6, 4, and 2 respectively.

Legends Series 9:

  • The Undertaker
  • Tatanka (Wrestlemania 8 attire)
  • Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase
  • Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase (Chase version)
  • Nikolai Volkoff

The Breakdown: This is a nice mix, with Undertaker and 1992 Version of Tatanka being the highlights. Nikolai is missing the Russian emblem on his jacket, and both Dibiase figures are tiny compared to other figures. This is the most recent complete series on shelves at Target.

Legends Series 10:

  • John Cena
  • Diamond Dallas Page
  • Brutus Beefcake
  • Big Van Vader

The Breakdown: This series has been somewhat confusing, with Cena and Vader being released on April 24, and Page and Brutus not slated to be released until July 5th. Not pictured is the chase version of Beefcake, which features blue tights instead of yellow. Cena is a nice twist with a 2002 head and 2020 head. Personal highlight is Big Van Vader which is nicely detailed and comes with good accessories.

Legends Series 11:

  • Macho Man Randy Savage
  • Macho Man Randy Savage (Chase Version)
  • Bam Bam Bigelow
  • Big John Studd
  • Scott Hall

The Breakdown: This upcoming WWE Legends Series looks fantastic. It’s always nice to get different attires of Macho Man, and this one completes his Wrestlemania 3 look. Bam Bam is a new look in his ECW gear and Television title, Big John Studd has only one release in a multipack, and Scott Hall in nWo colors is a nice touch. I’m looking forward to all of these.

The Best:

Big Van Vader, series 10. Macho Man series 11, Razor Ramon series 7.

The Worst:

Bobby Heenan Series 7 is too niche. Scott Hall Series 11’s face scan is a bad likeness. Both Dibiase figures are tiny.

.

Next post will feature the Legend Tag teams series, various flashback, exclusives, and Legends released in the main line, such as Elite, Summerslam, Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, Hall of Fame, Hall of Champions, and Network Spotlight.
