The Unforgettable Impact of Jakks Classic Superstars: The Sleepers

These represent some of Jakks finest work on the Classic Superstars line, but they aren’t always on the top of people’s mind when they think of the Classics line. These are The Sleepers.

Series 3 Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase

Dibiase was an awesome addition to the line in series 3. He comes with great accessories, and his parts selection is pretty accurate. In fact, Jakks’ Dibiase is closer to reality than Mattel’s Elites.

Series 4 Junkyard Dog

You can’t really find fault with this figure. It’s basically spot on.

Series 5 Mr Wonderful Paul Orndorff

Another flawless figure, the robe is well done, and his attire and parts work ahem, Wonderfully.

Series 6 Doink the Clown

I recently called this Doink one of the best Classics in the entire line. Other than the unnecessary knee and elbow pads, which were easy to remove, this figure is perfect.

Series 7 King Harley Race

With all of the chaos around Harley’s Elite Flashback figure, and then rerelease in the Greatest Hits from Mattel, this figure is overlooked. It’s definitely one of the sleepers in the line, because other than an inaccurate crown, this figure is perfect.

Series 9 Bam Bam Bigelow

Bigelow is another one of the best classics in the entire line, and there are no flaws here. Just a good, solid figure.

Series 9 Papa Shango

The same goes for Papa Shango, from the same wave as Bam Bam. Just a solid figure with great accessories, likeness and parts selections. Flawless.

Series 10 Mr. Perfect

Everything about Bigelow and Shango applies here. This figure is, Perfect.

Series 10 Greg The Hammer Valentine

One of the sleepers for sure is Greg The Hammer Valentine. Greg has a detailed robe, and his attire and parts are spot on. Not one of the most popular names in the line, but a great figure nonetheless.

More of The Sleepers

Series 11 123 Kid

The 123 Kid has spot on parts choices, and a good attire. This one could have had some repaints.

Series 11 Rick Steiner

The only thing about Rick that’s off is the red knee pads, but that was an easy fix. Otherwise the parts, attire, expression are all spot on.

Series 13 The Mountie

One of the most under appreciated in the line, The Mountie from series 13 is a true sleeper. The only thing that would have made this better is a shock stick.

Series 14 The Model Rick Martel

Martel is a great addition in his pink attire, even including a pink sweater. The only draw back here is the hair, which is his Strike Force era style.

Series 15 Tully Blanchard

Tully comes with a great robe, perfect parts choices and attire. He was overshadowed in his wave by Luger, Razor, Genius and others, but this is a solid figure.

Series 16 Warlord

Both of the Powers of Pain figures from series 16 are spot on. No critiques.

Series 16 Barbarian

See above.

Series 23 Lance Storm

This is one of my personal favorites in the line. Lance Storm in his WCW attire was a great addition. The figure is a bit tall but the parts choices work.

Series 25 Haku

King Haku was a great addition to the line. His crown is the wrong color, but otherwise he is spot on. Somehow when Jakks released him as Meng later, they made it worse with wrong skin tone.

Series 26 Dr Death Steve Williams

One of the last “new” names for the Classic line, Dr. Death came out perfectly. All the important details are there, and the robe is a bonus. I remember looking hard for this one.

In conclusion

The Classic Superstars line has a lot of great figures, and these are some of my personal favorites and truly under appreciated parts of the line.
