Filling the gaps in my collection

Recently, I was able to acquire two missing pieces for my collection, the Flashback Series 2 USA Ultimate Warrior, and a grail piece, the Defining Moments Wrestlemania 7 Ultimate Warrior. This got me to thinking, I need a checklist. As discussed previously, I have a need for filling the gaps in my collection.

Hasbros:

The WWF Hasbro series is one of my favorite wrestling figure series. The mythical childhood memories of playing with figures centers right on the Hasbro era for me. I have managed to complete the main line of Hasbros, and have them safely in a detolf display case. The ones that I am missing, are a tall, tall order. Filling the Gaps in the Hasbro line would be the Mail Aways. Bret Hart, Undertaker, and Hulk Hogan were released as mail aways and are pretty difficult to come by now. A quick eBay search showed only an Undertaker, in bag at a cost of $3000. These are heavily customized and faked as well, so I will have to tread carefully on this one.

The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan are unique, but the Bret Hart came out in a carded version later in the line. The only way to be sure you have an authentic mail away Bret is if it’s in the bag.

Filling the Gaps for Galoob WCW:

The Galoob WCW line was out at the same time as the WWF Hasbros, and I have been able to obtain the majority of these releases, along with some of the UK versions. However, there are a handful left for me to pick up. Filling the gaps for WCW Galoob means picking up:

  • Dustin Rhodes
  • El Gigante
  • Big Josh
  • Brian Pillman Blue Attire
  • Barry Windham Blue Attire
  • Lex Luger Green Attire
  • Sid Vicious Pink Attire
  • Sting Entrance Gear
  • Lex Luger Entrance Gear

Jakks Bone Crunching Action:

There are only a small handful of BCA figures that I missed out on, but they are some hitters.

  • DTA Tour Series 2 Blue Blazer (Owen Hart)
  • Special Edition 2 pack Bret Hart vs Owen Hart
  • Special Edition 2 Pack Razor Ramon and Diesel
  • 2 Tuff Series The Rock and Owen Hart
  • Survivor Series Box Set Ultimate Warrior

I never found Blue Blazer on the shelves in 1999, and then Owen’s accident happened and he was definitely scarce from there. The special edition 2 packs were online exclusive, which in 1997 was not realistic for me yet. I swear I saw them at a Kay-Bee Toys once, though. I did recently pick up the Razor Ramon from the 2 pack, but no Diesel yet. The 2 Tuff set was Owen’s final figure, and it didn’t feel right buying it at the time. The Warrior was part of a box set, so I passed on it at the time since it was three repaints.

Filling the Gaps for Mattel Elites:

All of these I saw in a store at least once, or in some cases (Sting, Dusty, Undertaker, Macho) multiple times, but I never picked them up for one reason or another. Nash in red, I had never seen in a store.

Mattel Legends and Exclusives:

  • Target Exclusive Red Rooster
  • Ringside Exclusive Macho Man Wolfpac attire
  • Fan Central Mark Henry
  • Wrestlemania 30 Shawn Michaels
  • Ringside Exclusive Macho King
  • Mattycollector.com King Kong Bundy
  • Hall of Champions Kane
  • Hall of Champions Paul Bearer
  • Hall of Champions Undertaker
  • Flashback Series 3 Harley Race
  • Ringside Exclusive Bret Hart
  • Legends Series Brian Pillman
  • WWE All Stars Macho Man

More slacking on my part here, as I had opportunities to buy everyone on the above group at retail price at one point. For one reason or another, I let them slip through my fingers. Buying all of these eventually will be filling the gaps in my collection.

Happy hunting!
