The WWE Legends line at Target has been a good outlet for Legends and Classic talent to be released in updated attire, or even a debut like Greg Valentine. In this post, let’s look at who should be included in future waves.
Note: I’m going with the current pattern of using mostly signed talent for this. Unfortunately no Steiner Brothers, or other talent that is not currently signed to a Mattel deal.
Next WWE Legends: Wrestlemania edition
Hulk Hogan (Wrestlemania 8):
Hulkamania was at risk of coming to an end at Wrestlemania 8, facing off with Sid Justice. Hogan indicated that he would be stepping away from the ring for a while. Of course, Hogan came out on top in the end. This would be a great way to get a red/yellow Hogan into the Legends line, without needing the boas, weight belt and other accessories.
Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania 11 version):
I chose this attire for Shawn Michaels because we already have his attires from Wrestlemania 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 14. Let’s fill in a gap with what was a pretty clean attire.
El Matador Tito Santana (Wrestlemania 8):
Tito Santana had a great career in the WWF, and his final phase was as El Matador, with a match against Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 8. Mattel has basically used this attire before with Los Matadores, so it would not be difficult to produce a Tito in this gear. The green and pink would really pop as well. As a bonus, this would check off another Hasbro figure from the list remaining to be made by Mattel.
Big Bossman (Wrestlemania 7):
The Big Boss Man was a big star in the early 1990s for the WWF. His previous elite figure was from closer to his debut, when Boss Man weighed in excess of 350 pounds. By 1991, he had dropped weight and was very mobile in the ring. It would be a good addition to get a slimmer Boss Man figure, similar to the upgrade Hasbro gave him between series 1 and series 3.
Next WWE Legends: iconic moments
Bret Hart (Royal Rumble 1994):
Bret Hart and Lex Luger were both declared winners of the Royal Rumble in 1994. Bret also famously had a falling out with his brother Owen on this show. The black trimmed in pink with white paint splatters is an iconic attire for Bret, and one that definitely needs to be made.
Kane (King of the Ring 98):
Kane debuted his two sleeve look when he faced Steve Austin and King of the Ring 1998, when he won the world title. This is an elite attire that is missing from Kane’s lineup and would be a great fit into the Legends line, as he was just inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Next WWE Legends, WCW Section
Brian Pillman (Hollywood Blonds):
Stunning Steve Austin was recently released in the Elite line, so it is absolutely necessary to get a matching Flyin’ Brian to complete the Hollywood Blonds. Pillman has been in the news lately, with his Dark Side of the Ring episodes coming out recently.
Kevin Nash 1999 Nitro:
Kevin Nash was the WCW champion, to be challenged by Hollywood Hulk Hogan. In a very infamous moment, the Fingerpoke of Doom occured, Hogan wins the belt, and the nWo is reunited. This would be a great Nash figure.
Next WWE Legends, with a chase version
Lex Luger (wcw version) w/chase
Lex Luger is due for his time in WCW, so I chose his 1996 black attire and 1992 Blue attire as a chase version. This would be easy enough for Mattel to do, and get two eras of Luger’s career in one set.
Booker T (Harlem Heat:
Booker T was a part of Harlem Heat, one of the best tag teams WCW had in the 1990s. Their release in the elite line in red attire was an excellent release, and it would be nice to see another shot in black with a purple or blue chase version.
These are just some examples of who I’d like to see in the Legends line, but who will the Next WWE Legends be? Time will tell.
