Target Run and Done: Hot Wheels 2021 D case

It’s now 2021 and Hot Wheels has finally released the 2021 D Case. Seemingly all of the Target stores have recieived these, as they also contain the first batch of Target Red Editions for 2021.

The story:

A collector buddy told me he found D case for 2021 at his nearby Target, including the Super. This was exciting because up until now, only B case has been released in the area. I got up and headed out to a store I’ve had luck with in the past.

When I arrived, I immediately started spotting D case cars and the pile in my cart grew. I ended up buying 37 mainlines by the end of the day.

Another collector saw my cart and commented that I had quite a few. As we talked a bit, he pointed out that the new Target Exclusive Flying Customs cars had arrived. In my hurry to catch the 2021 D case, I walked right by them. Oddly, there was a full set on the shelf so I was able to grab all eight in one shot.

Taking a loss from a clerk:

At the second store I visited, I didn’t see the fresh cars out, so I began to ask a clerk to scan and check on if a new shipment had arrived. A second clerk quickly shut it down by saying “all of our hot wheels are out on the floor.” A kiss of death to a collector. I said okay, but still checked the scanner out of curiosity. It showed 144 (2 cases) in back. After some thought and desire to be a better collector than the reputation hot wheels collectors have, I took the L and left.

In three stores, I found everything I needed for 2021 D case, other than the Super and ID car. I’ll be on the lookout for those.

Happy hunting!
