When I was growing up, I played with my Hasbro WWF figures a TON. Once I began collecting the line it was off to the races, and soon I had everything except for the green card series. Looking back at the set now, I’ve picked out 10 that I would call my favorite. But first, the honorable mentions.
Tied for 11: Rick Martel, Ted Dibiase #3, Hulk Hogan #4, Rick and Scott Steiner
10: Marty Jannetty #2
Other than the infamous non-painted teeth, this figure is fantastic. Reusing the Macho Man #1 body, it has colorful deco and was very accurate to Marty’s 1993 run.
9: Bam Bam Bigelow
The beast from the east was a great addition to the Hasbro line. The Earthquake body worked for Bigelow, there was a decent effort on his tattoos, the attire is accurate for early 1993 that the figure is based on.
8: Smash
This figure was in the Series 1 lineup and then in the tag teams wave with Crush. I was always a fan of Demolition as a team and I feel the Smash figure was the best of the three Demolition members. The attire and face paint were very accurate, and they even added the elbow pad that Smash usually wore. This is a solid figure.
7: Razor Ramon #2
Both of the Razors that Hasbros released were solid, but I think the single color gear was a better representation of Razor in the WWF. Using the Macho King legs and arms, this figure was a good fit for Razor. A bonus for this figure is that it was a complete surprise (to me) in the pre-internet days as it was added in to the Blue Card wave along with Shawn Michaels in black attire. I remember being stunned to find it at the store.
6: Macho King/Macho Man Randy Savage
Speaking of Macho King, these two also made my list. I picked this version over the more accurate Savage #1 only because Macho King was the figure I had growing up, as I never purchased the Orange Macho until I was an adult collector. The accessories are spot on, the attire is accurate, and the molding was all original to Savage at the time. The biggest flaw is that the gold paint easily wore off, leaving Randy without knee pads.
5: The Undertaker
The deadman was a very hard figure to find for me, so that alone makes it special. The figure is very accurate to his look at the time. The red card version is even better, but this version is the one I had to work with. It would have been nice if the hat was removable, but that’s not what hasbro was into at the time (see Mountie and Sgt Slaughter for examples). The hand was rumored to be for an Urn, but that was cut. The hand is perfect for chokeholds or chokeslams.
4: Brutus Beefcake #2
This is one of the first Hasbro figures I remember getting as a child. Brutus #2 was a massive upgrade from his series 1 figure. The attire is colorful and appropriate for the character. It features all original parts and was a good representation of Brutus.
3: Hulk Hogan #3
Hulk Hogan is the cornerstone of the Hasbro line. His five figures released are all iconic, but for me personally, this one is my favorite. I never had series 1 Hogan, it was this one dropping legs in my fed. This was one of the first figures I had, even before I had a ring to use.
2: Shawn Michaels #2
After the very mediocre Rockers tag team version of Shawn, this figure was a blockbuster. It was a highlight of the very strong yellow card set, which has Shawn in his solo gear from his 1992 heel run, Using the Macho Man #1 mold. It is a very accurate version of heel Michaels. This figure is one of the best and most accurate out of the entire Hasbro line.
1: Bret Hart #1
I chose this figure over the Bret #2 only because the attire is more accurate on this one. The pink elbow pads and outdated silver glasses threw the number 2 off. But both of these are great figures and they got their use in my fed. I was always a Bret Hart fan, so I was ecstatic to find this one in a Meijer store when that was a new and unique place to visit. This figure is very accurate, and has a good amount of detail. The mold is original to Bret and fits him well.
Overall, I love the Hasbro line and wish it would have continued. There are very few duds in the line overall so it’s definitely a line worth owning, although the prices are definitely high on them, even loose right now.
