Looking Back Fondly: These are my Hasbro Memories

The WWF Hasbro line was my introduction to wrestling figures way back in 1992. The line had been out since 1990, so I had some catching up to do. In this post I’ll share some of my best memories of the Hasbro line, 27 years later.

Unfortunately, I don’t remember the very first Hasbro that I had, but I remember the first time watching wrestling being Saturday nights Main Event in early 1992. After that I was hooked and began collecting the figures.

The first figures I remember having was Hulk Hogan #3, Sgt. Slaughter, and Macho King. I didn’t have the ring, so I used shoes fashioned into a square. You do what you have to do. I added Brutus Beefcake #2 around this time.

I remember going with my dad and finding the Legion of Doom and begging to get them. I don’t remember seeing the Nasty Boys with them, but 10 year old me preferred the (Actually) subpar LOD so that was the purchase.

For my birthday that year, I was lucky getting Big Bossman 2, Greg Valentine, Mr. Perfect, Earthquake and Typhoon from my mother.

I recall finding The series 4 wave at Meijer, and getting Bret Hart and the British Bulldog. We found the Undertaker in a Hart’s store on the top shelf not long after that.

The 1993 wave I added slowly through infrequent trips to the local Toys R Us, specifically getting Ric Flair and Papa Shango on trips with my grandmother. Birthday 1993 added Hulk Hogan #4, Macho Man #4, Skinner, and IRS I believe. Then Rick Martel and Tito Santana soon after.

By this time the “Undertake ‘em all!” Ad was out and I was able to see what was coming up and filled in the gaps.

The most exciting ad ever to 10 year old me.

What I didn’t expect was Christmastime, 1993 and finding by complete surprise, THE YELLOW CARDS.
