My eBay Hot Wheels adventure

When COVID-19, aka the Coronavirus hit, “Corona Hunting” became a reality. Faced with not being able to get out and look for new releases of Hot Wheels, I turned to backfilling my collection. I use a spreadsheet with various cars from previous years on it, that I would use at shows and collectible shops to keep track of what I was missing. I started looking at holes in my list and turned to eBay to start picking things up. As usual, I got a little bit carried away.

The Haul:

I picked up this truck that I had been after…
Bubble separating from the card. Sad Face. I ended up re-purchasing this one to make up for it.

The Explanation:

I ordered a series of small lots and received many shipments. I did what I could to batch cars together from one seller, but it didn’t always work out. Each picture in the gallery is what I received for that day. The 2011 56 Flashsider in Orange was one I had been looking for , and when it arrived, the card was separating from the bubble. I ended up reordering that one.

What was I looking for?

The Hot Wheels I went to eBay to get were ones that I had been looking for over time, but hadn’t yet found. My priorities were:

Kmart Exclusives

Walmart Exclusives

Walmart Zamac edition. Then it was:

Recolors that I had been missing of various models,

Cars with flames

and finally, just random stuff that caught my eye. I was able to cut my checklist down by almost half from when I started. Because of this, I felt a sense of accomplishment on my eBay Hot Wheels adventure.

In 2020, with shows and secondary sources like shops and flea markets closed or restricted, this has become the new way of collecting. Just search well and make sure you’re not overpaying for something. Good luck and happy searching!
