Leading up to the Christmas season, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is known for getting shipments of Johnny Lightning cars.
Wait, what are those?
Johnny Lightning has been running in it’s current form since 2016. They claim to be the original chase cars, with their White Lightnings. I wrote a piece about this back in 2019.
A White Lightning is identified in several ways, they typically feature at least two of these characteristics:
- The Paint is White (instead of the listed color)
- White Interior
- Instead of silver, has a White Base
- White Tires
- “White Lightning” written on the tires
- Other White details such as roof or rally stripes, etc.
I am a casual collector of Johnny Lightning, as they have limited availability in the stores, as well as personally choosing to only collect certain models they produce. With Greenlight, Auto World, and Johnny Lightning, I only collect models that I prefer, due to their higher price point. With Hot Wheels, it’s easier to be more diverse in what models I pick up. I have a decent amount of JL cars, and a few White Lightnings that I have found along the way. Today, turned into my best Johnny Lightning haul ever.
Here’s what I walked into:
The Ollie’s location that I visited had not put out as many JL cars as other stores, and I checked on them on more than one occasion. We decided to make the trip today, and it was well worth it. I saw a huge bin stacked with JL cars.
I started picking around, and asked the clerk how long they had been out. She told me only since the day before. Shortly thereafter, I found the first WL, a Pontiac Firebird. Now, it’s game on. I ended up digging through the entire bin and stacking as many as possible (a technique perfected so as to not miss anything when going through a Hot Wheels bin). It took me approximately 30 minutes.
Here is the end result:
