A wife’s view…
I first met my husband in August 2017. We had talked on the phone and text weeks prior to us meeting and he often mentioned he collected cars. Little did I know what he really meant!
When we both finally worked up the courage to meet he asked meet him at Walmart in the toy aisle. I thought strange? But it was safe. After all he was a complete stranger. He began to explain the world of hot wheels. Let’s just say it was very overwhelming!
I had no clue the difference between an exclusive, red car, treasure hunt, or super treasure hunt. I am much better now about knowing the difference but back then I was clueless.
In 10/2017, my husband took me to my first hot wheel/toy collector show! HOLY MOLY!! This was a thing? People actually collect hot wheels. I had no clue this world even existed!
It was very interesting and still is, to see how my husband figures out what store gets what shipment and even what to look for in the store.
Although this hot wheels/collector world is fascinating, it can also be annoying! Watching my husband stalk websites to keep up with the cars that are coming, the disappointment of missing a fresh box, and his frustration with dealing with store managers can be enough for me to question why still do it?
But I know why he does! It brings him peace. And honestly that makes me happy. I love seeing him light when he gets that super or green light he has been hunting all week for or when he just wants to talk about cars.
I’d say I’ve come a long way since 8/2017 and I’m excited to keep learning about life as a collectors wife!
