As posted earlier, Mattel has continued it’s Target Exclusive Hot Wheels Ultra Hots Series. Ultra Hots Wave 3 continues the pattern of all metal, spectraflame paint, and Ultra Hot wheels with a flame design. The majority of the modern Ultra Hots have been classic muscle cars, with a couple of exceptions. So far, we’ve avoided the Hot Wheels Original Design habit and there have been solid lineups. Here’s a rundown of Ultra Hots, Wave 3.
We’ve discussed Ultra Hots before, and again. This is the newest wave of the Target exclusives that have been hitting this Spring. I’ll go through them from least favorite, to most favorite of this wave.
Ultra Hots Wave 4:
Triumph TR6 – this is a car that exists. A dark gold finish, it most likely appeals to someone.
Volkswagen Kafer Racer – They stick this casting in every line, so it’s not a surprise to see it here. This gold finish looks better than the Triumph, at least.
‘73 BMW 3.0 CSL – This one was a weak Super Treasure Hunt, but it looks okay here. It would look a lot better without the number on the side. The Dark Blue is a nice finish.
Mazda Repu – This is another one that gets inserted into a lot of lines, but this one at least has a sharp light blue color scheme to save it from mediocrity. This one gets a pass.
’71 AMC Javelin – this casting doesn’t come around quite as often, and fits into the overall lineup of Ultra Hots, which is heavy to the muscle cars. This blue is different from the BMW as well.
’81 Ford Fairmont – Now we’re talking. This is the kind of deep cut casting that is perfect for Ultra Hots and it’s retro theme. This one is also very clean in a dark green scheme. A sleeper of the set.
80s Pontiac Firebird – this one is a dilemma for me, because this is my favorite casting of the bunch, it looks awesome in red, and it’s one of the best Ultra Hots overall. It’s not the best of this wave though. Don’t skip out on this one though.
66 Pontiac GTO – This one is stunning in person, with a vibrant purple scheme, and this car just looks fantastic. It took a great car to pass the Firebird, and this one did it. A must have.
In Conclusion
This line is pretty great and I’ll continue to support it as it goes on. Target retros typically go two years, so it remains to be seen what will come next, but there is one more wave planned for 2024 Ultra Hots, and I’ll review those in due time.
Happy Hunting
