I really enjoy the Ultra Hots line. Maybe it’s the store exclusive part, but I enjoy completing sub-series like these. This particular set has produced some good and some bad, but these are always interesting.
Trying out a new grading system here. If the car is good, it gets a point, and if not, it doesn’t.
Other Ultra Hots-related shenanigans can be found here, here, and here. Also, here and here.
’70 Ford Escort RS1600 – This casting always comes back around, but this one doesn’t look bad in the spectra flame gold. One of the top four here. 1/1
Volkswagen T1-GTR – This one doesn’t work for me. I don’t mind the magenta color, but this casting is a misfit. 1/2
’89 Mazda Savanna RX-7 FC3S – a very deep cut of castings, but doesn’t look bad with it’s paint scheme. call this 2/3.
’88 Honda CR-X. This one will be the one most people will grab first. It does look good in purple, and is a nice fit with the overall line. 3/4.
Porsche 356 Outlaw – I’m not a fan of this casting, but Porsches are in fashion right now, so here we are. I do however, love this color. It pops big time. 4/5.
’65 Pontiac GTO – This one is a letdown. Spectraflame brown doesn’t really play well, although I like the choice of model. That said, I can’t point this one. 4/6
’81 Toyota Starlet KP61 – this wandered over from the Japan Historics Car Culture arena, and should have stayed there. The orange color is decent but could be better, and the car itself is not impressive. 4/7
’69 Copo Corvette – We have a winner! This car looks great in the bright blue, and is just a classic look all around. All the points. 5/8.
