Hot Wheels: Ultra Hots are back

For 2022 and possibly beyond, The Hot Wheels Target Retro Exclusive will be Ultra Hots. This follows previous Target exclusives Retros, Decades, and Flying Customs. The Ultra Hots are a throwback to the early 80s. All cars feature Spectraflame-style paintjobs, and are a tribute to the original Ultra Hots from 1984.

Ultra Hots Wave 1 Checklist:

  • 66 Ford Fairlane 427
  • 69 Mercury Cyclone
  • 70 Plymouth Barracuda
  • 80 El Camino
  • 71 Plymouth GTX
  • 70 Chevy Camaro RS
  • 87 Buick Regal GNX
  • 67 Oldsmobile 442

The Breakdown:

66 Ford Fairlane 427. This car is very sharp in spectraflame purple and is a good kick off to the line.
69 Mercury Cyclone – A Bold car in spectraflame silver with Gold Ultra Hot Wheels.
70 Plymouth Barracuda – Another purple car, but this one is another great piece, as the convertible is a nice addition.
80 El Camino – A standout here in spectraflame gold, with red five spoke wheels, this one sticks out from the crowd.
71 Plymouth GTX – I’m a sucker for green, especially spectraflame. This one also features regular five spoke wheels but it’s still a sharp piece.
70 Camaro RS – This one actually could be a bit better, as the blue looks good but the racing theme takes it down a notch compared to the others in the wave. Still a must have, though.
87 Buick Regal GNX – This one is technically not a GNX since it isn’t black, but that’s nitpicking. Any Regal or other G Body is always welcome. This one is a spectraflame burgundy with gold Ultra Hot Wheels and it’s a definite cornerstone for the set.
67 Oldsmobile 442 – This one doesn’t come along often, and it’s a great fit for this retro/muscle themed wave. In a Spectraflame dark orange, this car looks strong and fast.

These are starting to make their way into Target stores slowly so keep your eyes peeled. My local store didn’t have them out, but showed “in stock” so a handy online order took care of a set for me. There is at least one more wave coming for these before the end of the year so happy hunting!
