In 2004, a selection of the 100 First Editions for the year were released as unpainted ‘ZAMAC’ models. These were a Toys ‘R’ Us exclusive. They were mixed in to regular cases. These are known as the 2004 Zamacs. There is a total of 36 models in this run, which was only done in 2004, until being re-introduced at Walmart in 2013.
ZAMAC is an acronym for the Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium, and Copper alloy that Hot Wheels and other die-cast toy cars are made from (cast).
A ZAMAC car is basically an unpainted car, other than the tampo designs and a clear coat.
This is a checklist for 2004, and I also have provided a checklist for the modern 2013-2023 line here:

2004 ZAMACS analysis:
There are some interesting choices in this wave. 2004 was a big year with the 100 new models released in the mainline, and this was another way to get some of those new models out. Some of the series like FatBax, Crooze, and Hardnoze were very short lived.
The 2004 Zamacs also have some classic models, and some of them are now highly sought after. The Batmobile is generally the most expensive on the secondary market, and the Twin Mill was a convention exclusive.
Same as 2013-Present, the 2004 Zamacs were released as an alternate version of a regular mainline vehicle. There is a matching car for all of the Zamacs that have been released.

In Conclusion:
This was a fun sub-series to collect, and some were easier to come by than others. Currently, I am only missing the Batmobile and Twin Mill, hope to correct that soon.
