Continuing a tradition from 2021 and 2020, here is my annual ranking of the Hot Wheels Regular Treasure Hunts. As always, it’s a mixed bag of quality and interest with these. However, the rarity on these have increased, with more “dud” cases showing up with no Hunts at all. Previously, you could generally count on a Regular at least being in a fresh case. These rankings are purely based on my own opinions. Let’s start at the bottom:
2022 Treasure Hunts 15-11:
This one isn’t too bad looking, but something had to be at the bottom, and I generally liked the rest more than this one.
Normally, I’m an Impala guy, but this one didn’t move me too much. It may be time for the Art Cars to take a break, but they are continuing into 2023.
Draftnator sticks out with it’s bright red and orange scheme, but it’s still a fantasy casting that will always lose favor with me.
The Tooned version of Twin Mill was okay enough, but not anything special.
The Subaru will be a popular hunt for collectors of that genre, but to me it isn’t much. It does look like an actual car you’d see in a race at least.
The middle of the pack: 10-6:
Gotta Go is another fantasy casting, but I don’t mind this one quite so much. It’s also a sharp blue color.
Our annual Batmobile entry is decent enough, but not anything mind blowing.
Normally something like this would be at the bottom of the barrel and it would deserve it. But this one in clear and pink with white is very sharp and eye catching.
Quick Bite is a long term casting that has gone by several names, but this version is decent. The orange-yellow color pops, and it’s always good to see veteran castings getting used.
The Mini is nice enough, it’s bright yellow and that makes it stand out. Otherwise it’s average.
The top 5 Treasure Hunts:
Like I said last year, we always need a funny car in our lives. This one doesn’t look too silly.
The Dodge Truck was my hardest to find so far this year (8/22/22), as I’ve only found one, on a bad card. I always trend toward trucks, but this one has too many graphics for my taste.
This fantasy casting was a fun addition to the line. It’s one where when it debuted, you knew it would be getting the Treasure Hunt Treatment at some point. You don’t see too many cars in this color scheme either.
The Jeep is a good looking off-road vehicle and the orange is a nice color. This one looks like it’s muddy and that is a great detail.
This one is a shocker, but I thought the golden Duck was a great choice this year. The Duck n Rolls have all looked good, but gold chrome is excellent. It’s my pick for this year.
